Why take the Gospel to the Jew first?
- It is a biblical mandate given by the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.
- It is the key to a supernatural door of blessing. Just look at Romans 11:12
If the Gentiles were enriched because the Jews turned down God’s offer of salvation, think how much greater a blessing the world will share when the Jews finally accept it.
Robert Murray M'Cheyne
Robert Murray M'Cheyne wrote in the early 1800s:
"We must not only be evangelistic, but evangelistic as God would have us be – not only dispense the light on every hand, but dispense it first to the Jew.
"Then shall God revive his work in the midst of the years. Our land shall be refreshed ... The cobwebs of controversy shall be swept out of our sanctuaries, the jarrings and jealousies of our church turned into the harmony of praise, and our own souls become like a well-watered garden."
Robert Murray M’Cheyne (1813-1843) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He became pastor of St. Peter’s Church, Dundee at age 23. Frail in health, he died at 29. History records that his ministry shook all of Scotland!
Hudson Taylor
It was said of renowned missionary to China, Hudson Taylor, that at the beginning of each year, Hudson Taylor sent a cheque to the Mildmay Mission to the Jews, inscribed on the back of which were the words of Romans 1:16, "To the Jew first".
